Maine Governor Janet Mills has signed legislation in response to the mass shooting in Lewiston in 2023 which includes strengthening Maine's Extreme Risk Protection Order law, Extending Maine’s participation with the NICS database, establishing a state office of gun violence, building crisis stabilization centers, and expanding mobile crisis.
Support Mobile Crisis Teams: $5.3 million ($1.7 million in General Fund) to strengthen mobile crisis response through a comprehensive MaineCare (Medicaid) payment model. This model will support teams comprised of specially trained behavioral health responders including peers who de-escalate mental health and substance use crises, assess needs, and provide an appropriate level of care in the least restrictive setting. These teams, which are dispatched to the location of a person in crisis through the 988 -- Maine's 24/7 centralized crisis lifeline -- are a critical safety-net service that the Mills Administration has effectively worked with providers and national experts for the past two years to improve.

Mobile Support Team have been in operation in Sonoma County - since 2012, though it has evolved and expanded over time. Today, the MST is available countywide, 24 hours a day, seven days a week – an incredible development that will greatly improve the services we provide to those experiencing mental health crises in that county.
Cash infusion welcomed as Sonoma County looks to bolster mental health teams - August 19, 2024
Mobile crisis teams in Sonoma County will now receive more support after county supervisors recently approved almost $4.5 million dollars in funding.
Sonoma County also needs to meet a new state mandate. Counties must now provide 24/7 mobile crisis response to Medi-Cal recipients.
The money will be divided between four mobile crisis teams in Sonoma County.
DAYTON - State to expand mobile response service for youth in crisis; seeks providers - August 9, 2024
In his 2024 State of the State address, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said mobile services for youth should be made available statewide. These services are currently only available in 47 of 88 Ohio counties.
