LAFAYETTE LA - New mobile response team for youth in mental health crisis to roll out in July, May 20, 2024
A new mobile response team tasked with assisting youth and their families in moments of crisis will be hitting the streets this summer. After a lengthy selection and training process, Lafayette-based nonprofit The Extra Mile will be running the program. The program consists of two main services, an immediate visit with the young person while they’re in crisis and a two-week follow up period to assist with medication management, resources the family might need and connection to more long-term services, such as counseling, if necessary.

More city and county 911 centers are recognizing the need for expertise in mental illness and addiction, for both direct response and routing, at first contact.
HOUSTON - Harris County halts HART program after Commissioners Court disagrees on paying vendor, May 22, 2024
Harris County paused its Holistic Assistance Response Teams after Commissioners Court failed to reach an agreement on whether to pay the vendor operating the program. At issue is a $270,000 payment to Disaster Emergency Medical Assistance Consulting and Management for administering the program for the last two months. Without that payment, county officials said, DEMA would be unable to make payroll related to the program.
An online search for DEMA Management and Consulting lists an address in Pasadena California, but the listed phone number connects to a rural hospital district in North Texas and its website is no longer is active.
